Performance Physiotherapy Ltd was formed in Pontypridd in 2003 with the aim of providing high quality private Physiotherapy services to clients through our network of clinics in South Wales.
Our clients range from elite level athletes with sports injuries to pensioners with back pain; from office workers with posture related neck pain to recreational joggers with knee pain. Whatever your level of activity, we are here to help you.
Ben formed Performance Physiotherapy in 2003 and now works as a Senior Physiotherapist/Director within the company. Ben has a special interest in sports injuries and has been involved in professional rugby for almost 15 year years. Among the teams he has been involved with are: Llanelli Scarlets, Celtic Crusaders RL, Wales RL, Wales National U20s and Wales national 7’s- where Ben was part of the management team of the World Cup winning squad in Dubai 2009. More recently, Ben was the head physio for the Newport Gwent Dragons between 2011 and 2014.
Ben currently works on a part time basis for the Cardiff Blues as their academy physiotherapist and is also the Head Physiotherapist for Pontypridd RFC.
He has also worked with many other elite sportsmen from the world of professional rugby, football, boxing and athletics- as well as countless numbers of members of the general public at his clinic in Pontypridd.
Ben has an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath and a post graduate certificate in Strength and Conditioning from Saint Mary's University, London. Allied to this he has a special interest in movement dysfunction and injury prevention and is one of only a few Kinetic Control accredited therapists in South Wales.
Alena joined the Performance Physiotherapy team in 2017 from Jersey Reds Rugby Club, where she was head physio.
She qualified from Coventry University in 2006 and has since gained experience working for both the NHS and in the private sector. Alena has a strong sports medicine background, and has an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Gareth has worked as a senior physiotherapist at Performance Physiotherapy since 2016. Before joining the Performance Physiotherapy team in 2015, Gareth worked as a senior physiotherapist in the NHS, specialising in musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
Gareth is an accredited APPI Pilates instructor and is a qualified AACP acupuncturist.
Mike Joined the Performance Physiotherapy team in 2017 following a role as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist within the NHS. Mike has a special interest in injury rehabilitation and strength and conditioning and has previously worked as both a PTI and exercise rehab instructor in several roles within the Royal Air Force- bringing his experience and expertise in the field of injury rehabilitation to help our patients back to full fitness.
Mike is also a keen athlete endurance athlete who has completed 75 marathons, 11 iron man triathlons and a double iron man triathlon!
Lisa joined Performance Physiotherapy as a senior physiotherapist in 2017 and has previously worked as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist across a range of roles in both the NHS and private sector. She has also worked across a range of sports including rugby, football and athletics and was part of the physiotherapy team at the recent athletics world championships in London. Lisa currently helps provide some of Performance Physiotherapy's primary care services to local GP practices, as well as being based at our Pontypridd clinic. Away form work Lisa is a keen rock climber, surfer and runner.
Katherine is our full time practice manager, based in our Pontypridd clinic. Katherine joined the team in 2008 and has been an extremely valuable addition to our staff and ensures all our patients receive a first class service from referral to discharge.
